SCU staff stage strike
STAFF at Southern Cross University will stop work for 24 hours on Wednesday as part of a National Day of Action.
Members of the National Tertiary Education Union at SCU voted in favour of the action on Thursday.
The strike will involve both academic and general staff across all campuses.
Members also voted to support rolling two-hour stoppages and a ban on the submission of students' grades.
SCU NTEU Branch President Jenny Austin said members were hoping the strike would focus the minds of university management on the concerns raised by the union in bargaining meetings.
“The union has been seeking significant improvements to working conditions for staff at SCU through negotiations with management in pursuit of a new Collective Workplace Agreement for over 12 months.”
She said concerns centred on workloads, job security, remuneration for the range of duties performed by casual staff and the reinstatement of some provisions lost in the previous bargaining round.
