Sea Eagles blow Q Cup chance

THIS was not the start the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles were looking for.

The Sea Eagles faded badly as they went down to the Central Capras 40-22 at Browne Park, Rockhampton, in their opening game of the 2012 Intrust Super Cup yesterday.

The Sunshine Coast started promisingly enough, leading 10-0 after early tries to captain Todd Murphy and centre Rowan Klein but fell in a heap.

By halftime they were trailing 22-10 before the Capras ran out convincing winners in hot and difficult conditions.

And while the loss was disappointing, coach Dave Cordwell said he was not reading too much into it.

"We just came up against a side playing with a lot of spirit and the opposition were boosted by their home crowd and that won out in the end," he said.

"We got off to a reasonable start but failed to get out of second gear."

Despite their good preparation, Cordwell said they were put off by the long road trip.

"We need to be more mentally tough and get our heads around all the factors that go into a road trip," he said.
