DEBRIS washed down the Clarence River in the biggest flood in its history is creating a cleanup problem on Clarence beaches.

Beaches have disappeared under a tangle of trees and branches and every wave seems to carry in more rubbish to add to the pile.

The sand at Main Beach in Yamba cannot be seen under a mat of broken trees and other debris that has come down the river and boomeranged onto the beach.

Floodwaters have isolated Yamba and residents fear it will be some time before the cleanup can get into full swing.

Louise Gumb has been capturing some dramatic photos from Yamba.
