Seagulls get hard-fought win

Intrust Cup

TWEED Heads Seagulls stayed in third place on the Intrust Cup ladder with a hard-fought but solid 22-19 win over Central Capras in Rockhampton yesterday.

But for Brad Davis having a rare off-day with the boot - he managed just one goal - the Seagulls would have been in a much more commanding position on the scoreboard.

The visitors notched five tries to three and always looked likely to get the competition points over their committed rivals.

Try scorers for the Seagulls were Matt King, Michael Henderson, Rod Griffin, Tom Merritt and Brad Lees.

Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League

MURWILLUMBAH Mustangs were well and truly rounded up and then broken-in by a very slick Byron Bay at Red Devil Park yesterday, crashing to their first loss of the season.

The Red Devils were always in control of the match and ran out comfortable 28-6 winners over the Mustangs to reverse their loss in the opening round of the 2012 season.

In other NRRRL results: Ballina 56 d Mullumbimby 4, Northern United 28 d Marist Brothers 26, Evans Head 26 d Casino 14, Kyogle 62 d Lower Clarence 20.

Bycroft Cup

BURLEIGH Bears went on a scoring rampage to trounce Cudgen Hornets 84-0 at Pizzey Park on Saturday evening, Currumbin edged out Tugun 22-20 in the match of the round and Southport was too good for Runaway Bay, posting a comprehensive 46-16 win.

Tweed Coast Raiders had the bye while Ormeau, who forfeited to Bilambil Jets, have withdrawn from the first grade competition.
