Seagulls take swag of medals
TWEED Seagulls mined swag of medals at last weekend's South-East Queensland Regional Little Athletics carnival which Seagulls hosted at Walter Peate Field, Kingscliff.
More than 700 track and field athletes representing eight clubs converged on Walter Peate which was in pristine condition for the meet.
The visiting clubs were from Ashmore, Beaudesert, Byron Bay, Runaway Bay, Gold Coast, Helensvale and Mudgeeraba.
The Seagulls athletes won 26 gold, 40 silver and 45 bronze medals to help celebrate the first occasion in which the club organised the regional carnival.
Also to be congratulated are members of the Seagulls committee who spent many long hours in the lead-up to the carnival ensuring everything went off as smoothly as possible.
They marked out the field event boundaries as well as the track lanes and presented the jumps pits and approaches in superb condition.
Seagulls publicity officer, Rick van Driest, said that everyone associated with the club breathed sighs of relief when sunny weather prevailed throughout the carnival.
"This was a big thing for the club in hosting the carnival but thankfully everything went right for us - the weather obviously played a major role in that," Mr van Driest said.
He said the carnival went off without a hitch and all the contestants competed in the right spirit.
More than 80 officials from all the competing clubs contributed greatly to the success of the carnival.
