Seagulls to give crims a spray
SEAGULLS Club general manager Andrew Cleverley is confident the introduction of the new cutting-edge DNA Guardian security system will maximise the protection of both staff and club patrons.
DNA Guardian is the latest security strategy helping businesses across Australia in the fight against crime and Seagulls is the first business in the Tweed to install it.
The introduction of this world-leading security strategy has assisted businesses across Australia to reduce crime by over 98% - in an effort to protect staff who are often on the front line of abusive and threatening criminals.
DNA Guardian works by spraying criminals or people fleeing from a crime scene, with a colourless, non-toxic substance which marks the perpetrators' skin with an invisible synthetic DNA.
The DNA tracer remains on the skin for up to six weeks and is visible only under ultraviolet light, so suspects can be verified by police.
This will create and irrefutable link between the criminal and the crime scene, leaving them with no escape or false alibi.
This system at Seagulls is being used in conjunction with traditional security systems, such as CCTV footage which can identify people carrying out armed robberies or other security breaches.
The DNA Guardian system will then positively and forensically identify the criminal.
Mr Cleverley said the DNA Guardian system which was installed last month, has yet to be activated at the club.
"I sincerely hope that it never does," Mr Cleverley said.
"As a deterrent it is second to none. Anyone intent on any skulduggery at Seagulls would be foolish to even think about putting the system to the test.
"Their chance of being acquitted once a case gets to court is absolutely zero."
No employees endanger their safety by personally spraying DNA Guardian.
"It is all done automatically - we have DNA Guardian sprays at all exits and other places within the club," Mr Cleverly said.
DNA Security Solutions managing director Tania Jolley said the company had achieved "fantastic results" for businesses which have adopted it.
"This new technology will have a strong deterrent effect on people who think this business is a soft target," Ms Jolley said.
"This technology gives the police the forensic evidence they need to link the thief to the crime scene at the time that the crime is occurring.
"Being proactive is far better than being reactive. The cost to a business of installing a DNA Guardian system is significantly less than what it costs the business in an armed hold-up; not to mention protecting the emotional and psychological wellbeing of the staff."
