Cate Blanchett is one step closer to an Oscar

CATE Blanchett is one step closer to an Oscar after taking home a Screen Actors Guild Award today.

The Aussie actress has been recognised for her stunning performance in Blue Jasmine for the second time in a week after taking home a Golden Globe last Monday.

Blanchett thanked director Woody Allen for helming the film which has made her a shoe-in for an Oscar on March 2.

"It's impossible to even approach good work without working with good people," she said in her acceptance speech.

"So enter Woody Allen, who writes these things and directs these things with such alarming regularity that we sort of almost take him for granted."

Matthew McConaughey was named best actor while the cast of American Hustle was awarded the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
