Search continues for fugitive

A MAN will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today after being detained by police in Banora Point yesterday afternoon.

Undercover Tweed detectives, uniformed officers, the dog squad and police helicopter were deployed to Flame Tree Park on the Terranora Broadwater around 3.30pm to detain two men in a Banora Point home.

Acting Sergeant Bruce Jones said the men were fugitives wanted for a string of serious offences in Sydney and the Gold Coast.

While police were able to capture one of the men, the other managed to escape through bushland behind the property.

The search will continue today.

It is unclear if the man at large is armed or unarmed.
