LEE Dunn is on a quest.

She is embarking on a project that will see the works of her father, Terranora Inlet artist, Nutter Buzacott (Buz) brought into the light for posterity.

Buz was a prolific artist who lived from 1905 to 1976 and produced a great many works that depicted the Tweed region, including the iconic Mount Warning.

“He was an amazing character,” Ms Dunn said.

“He was nicknamed The Stick Insect, because he was very tall and thin.

“He always wore white and would wander the bush looking for scenes to depict, adopting the pose of a stick insect as he viewed the scene.”

Ms Dunn wants to track down the owners of his paintings so she can catalogue his body of work.

“My aim is to write a biography of his life to accompany the catalogue,” she said.

“He was well-known in Melbourne for his work and won many prizes.”

Finally settling at Terranora Inlet, there is much of his work that his daughter has never seen.

“He loved the Tweed district and was part of the ‘Tweed Half Dozen’, a group of artists who concentrated on portraying Tweed landscapes.

Ms Dunn’s quest was sparked when a friend saw some of his work at the Canberra Gardens.

“I want to resurrect his work and his reputation, but to do that, I will need to track down his paintings,” she said.

A local man named Fred Simpson bought one of Ms Dunn’s favourite pieces, but she has been unable to track down the work of art or his family.

Anyone with information for Ms Dunn’s project is invited to contact her at the Clunes Post Office, at dunnlee@gmail.com or on (02) 6629 1147.
