Seawolves aim for first trophy
KINGSCLIFF Seawolves will have a light training run before boarding their bus to head down to Lismore.
They have a date with Richmond Rovers in the men’s open B Anzac Cup final at Neilsen Park.
Coach Paul Green has named a 17-strong squad to make the trip but is keeping his fingers crossed that a “good number” of his players are back from taking a short break over Easter.
“If we field our strongest side – and I’m pretty sure we will – we can make a real game of it with Rovers and win our first-ever trophy in Soccer Far North Coast competition,” Green said.
The coach said he would start the game with two strikers, Scott Finlayson and Col Ashton, who wears a second hat as manager of the team.
Finlayson and Eddie Brierley, will be the go-to men from corners and general play because of their ability in the air.
Green is pleased to have Aaron Herton in goal and he fully expects the improving keeper to play a strong hand in deciding his team’s fate.
“Aaron will take a lot of confidence out of his display last week in the 2-2 draw with Lismore Workers when he made several really good saves,” Green said.
The supporters team bus will depart Reg Dalton Oval at 10.30pm.
The game kicks off at 12.30pm.
