Adele's new "skinny gene" diet: Her secret to weight loss

SHE is the songstress hailed for her appearance almost as much as her music.

Adele has long been the woman standing against the tide of waif-ish female singers, proving with her latest £90-million contract that her voice is more important than industry expectations.

But now we learn that Adele has suddenly shed a whole lot of weight.

The singer is understood to have looked significantly more svelte when she turned up at the Billboard Music Awards.

According to the Daily Mail, she has joined the latest in Hollywood diet trends: the Sirtfood Diet.

Adele looks slimmer in her new video: Send My Love (To Your New Lover) too.

The brainchild of fitness trainer Pete Geracimo, the plan tells slimmers to eat plant foods, which he describes as "sirtuin activators" including kale and buckwheat.

These temper the appetite and activate the body's "skinny gene".

These genes are thought to also be activated by fasting or exercising. The sirtuins control the way the body handles fat, sugar and appetite more generally.

But nothing comes easy.

Adele is thought to be on an intense fitness and diet plan, which has her consuming green tea, cocoa powder and tumeric -- all high in these so-called sirtuin activators.

Apparently the singer is not having to forgo her delights though, allowing the star to enjoy red wine and cheese.

She told a source:

"The Sirtfood Diet is all about losing weight and feeling fantastic through eating great tasting food. It's based on extensive research into the power of key plant foods, which when added to our diet turn on fat burning and improve wellbeing."

Adele has previously dismissed questions over her weight, saying she began getting fit for her world tour "to get some stamina" but still moaned about going to the gym.

"I'm not skipping to the ****ing gym, I don't enjoy it," she said.
