Seeing red over Sensis cut of business' ad in Yellow Pages

EVERY time Rockhampton businessman Paul O'Connor opens the Yellow Pages he sees red.

The accountant, who operates Affordable Tax Returns, isn't listed in the 2013-14 edition of the Rockhampton Yellow Pages.

Mr O'Connor was furious he couldn't be found in the telephone directory after Sensis, who operates Yellow Pages, ended his contract as a result of his conduct with the company.

But, Mr O'Connor believed he was the one who had been dealt with unfairly, and said his business was set to suffer during the busy tax return period as a result.

"I have been constantly harassed by the people at Sensis when all I'm trying to do is get in the Yellow Pages," Mr O'Connor said.

Mr O'Connor told The Morning Bulletin of a number of issues he'd had with Sensis regarding his directory listings.

He said Sensis had not sent him proofs of his ads and had incorrectly listed his business's address in the hard copy of the Yellow Pages in the past, hampering the North Rockhampton man's business.

Much to Mr O'Connor's ire, a Sensis spokesperson told him it didn't matter if the address listing was incorrect as the Yellow Pages was a telephone directory, not a street directory.

Mr O'Connor said he had sought professional legal advice and had taken his concerns to the Queensland Ombudsman and the Office of Senator Barnaby Joyce for support in the matter.

A Sensis spokesman acknowledged they had made a mistake with Mr O'Connor's advertisement in the 2010 Rockhampton Yellow Pages directory, and had provided him with a full refund and had given him other free advertising since.

"We have worked very hard with Mr O'Connor since 2010 and have done our utmost to cater for his needs," the spokesman said.
