Senator Hogg announces retirement
VETERAN Queensland Senator John Hogg has announced his retirement from politics.
Senator Hogg, who became President of the Senate in 2008, told Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Friday of his intention to stand down at the end of his current term, in June 2014.
He was elected to the Senate in 1996, and served as Deputy President from 2002-2008.
Ms Gillard described the Senator as "one of the most decent people I know in political life" and would leave a "fine and lasting legacy".
