Seniors Week kicks off on a high note

TYALGUM hosted a very musical start to Seniors Week, with musicians galore visiting the village at the weekend.

The concert showcased the likes of Trombone Kellie and Tweed musician Martin Day, along with a handful of local musical and poetic talents.

Convenor of the free concert, Dennis Scanlon said the robust mix of fine music, poetry and hearty sing-a-long made for a great day out.

Mr Scanlon said the musicians who took part had all donated their time as a labour of love.

"It must have been good - so many people asked us to please do this again," he said.

Mr Scanlon said more concerts like it are on the cards this year.

He said the bus services for seniors were important throughout the year - not just during Seniors Week.

"It's essential," he said.

"Some of the people who attended are in aged care, and their buses don't run on the weekend - so we were lucky to get them here."

While many locals enjoyed the concert, Mr Scanlon said busloads came from around the Tweed, Lismore and Ballina.
