Elderly man 'plays dead' in attempt to avoid arrest

A MAN who "laid down on the ground and played dead" in front of police at a Toowoomba service station has escaped charges.

Officers were called to Shell Auto Savings Station on Anzac Ave at 9.08am Wednesday.

Toowoomba police district officer Inspector Mike Curtin said the 86-year-old man's car was parked across a driveway.

Insp. Curtin said it appeared he had gone to sleep.

He said there was an argument between the man and staff before police were called.

Officers told the man to move on however, he chose not to.

"He has laid down on the ground and played dead," Insp. Curtin said.

Police then picked the man up and carried him away.

He was not charged.
