SES gets smart phones

TWEED SES volunteers have technology at their fingertips to aid them in emergencies.

SES Richmond Tweed received 14 smart phones to help volunteers access weather information, communicate in the field and use the built-in cameras to gather information.

Regional controller Simon Gregg said the phones were welcome.

"Given the extended effects of La Niña and ongoing operations throughout the state over the past 12 months, these new smart phones have come at an opportune time to further help our men and women in the field," Mr Gregg said.

"At any time, volunteers can be called upon to assist in all sorts of emergency situations from severe storms and floods to land searches and road crash rescues.

"This technology will provide the capability to have instantaneous access to operational information which will help us better serve the community in our response to these sorts of emergencies."

Mr Gregg said there was the potential to provide live video feeds through the phones to assess flood dangers.
