Severe flooding expected to bypass North Coast

THE Tweed is not expected to experience anything more than light showers over the next week, despite heavy flooding on the state’s Mid North Coast.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Katarina Kovacevic said no serious weather conditions were predicted for the region in the next seven days.

“We’re not expecting there to be heavy rain for the Tweed in the next week,” she said.

“There will be showers, but nothing like we’ve seen in the Hunter.

“We’re not expecting there to be any significant or high rainfall.”

However, Ms Kovacevic said some thunderstorms were possible.

Emergency services have urged residents of the Mid North Coast, Central Coast, Newcastle and wider Sydney region to avoid waterways and use caution as heavy rain and flash-flooding persist.
