Severe storm warning issued

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a storm warning for the Tweed and southern Gold Coast.

The bureau said a severe thunderstorm is expected that will produce large hailstones, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and damaging winds.

The State Emergency Service has directed people to move cars under cover or away from trees, secure loose items around the home, keep clear of fallen power lines, keep clear of creeks and storm drains and avoid flood water.

The bureau warned that at 1:15pm (Qld), severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Kyogle (NSW).
