Sexual assault on elderly woman
BREAKING: Burleigh Heads detectives are seeking information about an “appalling” sexual assault on an elderly woman at Mermaid Beach.
A friend of the victim joined the police in appealing for information from the public.
“Even the most hardened have been left appalled by this attack,” the friend said.
An elderly woman woke up in her bed around 10pm last Friday with a man in his 20s to early 30s sexually assaulting her.
The friend said the victim was a private and independent woman who still wanted to continue living independently and was “waiting for all the fuss to die down”.
Police wanted information from anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary in the area around Francis St and Hedges Ave about 10pm last Friday.
Detectives wanted to talk to a man who was seen in the area at the time.
He was described as being about 180cm tall with broad shoulders and a dark complexion similar to someone of Mediterranean or South American descent.
