MEALS On Wheels Tweed staff will be on the other side of the counter when they celebrate national Meals On Wheels Day with a fundraiser at Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club.

The day is a chance to have a "Cuppa for A Cause” and raise both money and awareness about the service in the local area according to Tweed Community Support Inc Meals On Wheels manager Chris Watt.

"Meals on Wheels Tweed employs seven staff, has 86 volunteers and provides a meals service delivering over 1000 meals weekly assisting 534 people in the Tweed Heads area to remain in their homes,” Mr Watt said.

As well as delivering tasty and nourishing meals that are designed to meet the nutritional needs of older people, Meals on Wheels volunteers bring a daily dose of companionship and human connection, and peace of mind for clients and their families.

Today, and every week day, volunteers will help to produce, prepare, select and pack more than 35,000 meals.

Around the country, Australian Meals on Wheels volunteers make around 10 million house calls each year, making sure that clients are safe and well, as well as bringing social contact to more than 120,000 people who need a little bit of support.

  • Cuppa for a Cause is at Kingscliff Bowls Club from 10.30am on Wednesday, August 29. Phone 6674 2205.
