Sharp wins three gold at contest

SETTING South West Rocks ablaze, Nathan Sharp established himself as the Usain Bolt of Surf Life Saving NSW.

The lightning-quick Cudgen lifesaver struck for three individual gold medals during the NSW Country Championships at the weekend.

Sharp easily captured the under-17 male beach sprint and flags events, before toppling the men in the open male beach sprint.

While he fell shy of a four-peat in the open male beach flags and was muscled back to third, his efforts helped guide Cudgen to fifth place on the overall club pointscore. Sharp's growing reputation will be put to the test in Kingscliff, where he defends his title as the fastest man on North Coast sand at the NSW state championships in March.
