SYDNEY retailers have the choice to open all hours between now and Christmas Day.
From today, stores in Sydney's CBD Bondi Junction and major shopping centres including Parramatta, Penrith and Liverpool have permission to operate through the night.
Traders have never before been allowed to open 24-hours-a-day so early into the Christmas period.
Previously, retailers would have made applications to the state's planning department.
She told Sydney's Daily Telegraph shops would normally have to apply for approval for all-night trading with their local councils.
"This has meant smaller retailers, in the past, would not bother making the effort to extend their trading hours for just two weeks of the year".
