Shrek moves to the Gold Coast

GOLD Coast theme park Dreamworld has a new drawcard up its sleeve - and he's green.

Shrek and other lovable characters from DreamWorks Animation will soon be calling the park home under a new deal announced yesterday.

The park let the Puss in Boots out of the bag yesterday when it announced it would be building a 8400 square metre animation-themed land in the coming months.

The park's chief executive officer Todd Coates said Dreamworld was excited to join forces with DreamWorks, which will also bring to town Po from Kung Fu Panda and Alex the Lion from Madagascar.

"We are really excited to have formed a long-term strategic alliance with one of the most visionary entertainment companies in the world," he said.

DreamWorks Animation chief executive officers Jeffrey Katzenberg said the alliance was an opportunity to bring its characters across the globe.

"Dreamworld has done a fantastic job of creating quality entertainment experiences for their customers and we look forward to joining forces with the largest theme park in Australia, a hugely important market for us," Mr Katzenberg said.

Park-goers will see the partnership rolled out in three stages, it was revealed in a statement issued yesterday.

The first will see the Shrektacular Show open this summer, featuring eight DreamWorks characters performing holiday tunes.

Second, the new DreamWorks Experience precinct will open next Easter showcasing the worlds of the beloved characters and offer plenty of new rides based on blockbuster movies.

Finally, Kung Fu garden will be a place where families can meet Po from Kung Fu Panda and grab a bite to eat.
