Man arrested after siege, taken from scene in ambulance

A MARYBOROUGH street was in lock down yesterday as a man engaged in an hour long stand-off with police.

A middle-aged man with a bloody wrist was arrested by police after the apparent siege in a Maryborough home in Sussex St yesterday.

It is believed the man may have armed himself with a knife and was allegedly making threats within the house when police arrived at the suburban address.

Maryborough's police negotiators were called to the scene of the incident, which started about 2.50pm.

The man was handled and restrained by up to five officers as he withstood arrest.

Six police vehicles and two ambulances stood by during the incident.

The man's stomach appeared to be covered in blood, when he was loaded into a police wagon to be transported to hospital.

It is believed the man will be charged with a number of criminal offences in the coming days.

Neighbours, even children, watched from a safe distance in the street as the man was arrested and restrained.

Several cars were turned away from the street, with police closing intersections during the lock down.

A police forensics team took photographs and samples from the crime scene as part of their investigation after the male offender had been taken into custody.
