Siege underway in quiet Gold Coast suburb

POLICE are still attempting to negotiate with a man who has barricaded himself inside a home in the northern Gold Coast suburb of Ormeau.

The man, believed to be aged in his twenties, has been inside his parents home in Arthur Way since Wednesday morning.

Occupants of nearby houses were evacuated from their homes around midday Wednesday as SWAT teams moved in to try to negotiate with the man.

Neighbours say the man's parents left the house at around 6am Wednesday and believe they may be in protective custody.

Police believe the man is still inside the home but say he does not have any hostages.

Police have used a robot to convey a telephone to the man, hoping to communicate with him, but he has not co-operated with thier requests.

Neighbours say there have been previous disturbances at the house and believe the man may be a drug addict.

Police at the scene declined to provide any further information.
