Sigley stars for Murwillumbah

MURWILLUMBAH has salvaged some pride by denying South Tweed Colts outright victory in their LJ Hooker League clash at Rabjones Oval.

Colts claimed first innings points and the Peter Dawes Memorial Shield on the opening day of the two-day encounter before declaring outright points were there for the taking.

When play resumed on Saturday, Colts raced to a 101-run lead after dismissing Murwillumbah for just 85 the previous weekend.

However, Murwillumbah dug deep in their second innings with Joshua Sigley (50) the star of a much-improved performance from the top order.

Skipper Andrew Bennett (30), promising wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Reading (28) and Dominic Edwards (27) all impressed as Murwillumbah finished at 5-165.

In other round one results, Lennox Head beat Byron Bay, Ballina Bears defeated Lismore Workers, Casino Golf Club Cavaliers won against Tintenbar-East Ballina and Alstonville beat Southern Districts.
