Screen and stage star Lucy Durack sings drop-top praises

STARRING in the Australian production of Legally Blonde: The Musical, we caught up with screen and stage star Lucy Durack.

What's your current drive?

The Subaru XV, the lovely people at Subaru gave me an XV to drive while I'm in Brisbane with Legally Blonde. It's so sporty and safe all at the same time. It' so lovely to be able to really get around and explore Brisbane - so I've very grateful to the people at Subaru.

My car in Sydney is a little black 2008 Peugeot 207CC. It's a convertible which is a lot of fun and is zippy and easy to park, which is especially handy living in Sydney. I love it.

What do you like and hate about your car?

I love being in a convertible. It's is so much fun and the size is perfect for me, my boyfriend and our little dog. It does have seats in the back but they are really only suitable for children or small people.

What was your first car and what happened to it?

It was a powder-blue Saab sedan and her name was Dulcie. She was the best. I'd just got my licence and was going to uni for the first time and Dulcie was the perfect car to drive friends around in.

She was such a comfy car, like sitting in a big, soft, velour sofa.

I remember an elderly couple in Perth were selling her. My dad always said to my sisters and I that whatever we'd saved up he'd match, so we could get a better car than what we'd otherwise be able to afford. Dulcie had been well looked after and was a winner.

I had Dulcie for seven years. I even brought her to Sydney on a truck and drove her around for a few years when I first moved here.

But she didn't have working air-conditioning and it was like an oven in there. I had a few extremely hot summers. I pretty much drove her until she died.

During your childhood, what car did your family have?

Growing up my Dad always had Ford Falcon utes - he still does. He also always had motorcycles, a few different ones. I'm not sure what type they were, but he has finally got the one he's wanted all along - a Ducati 1098S.

I have no idea what that means except that I think it means it's sporty and that it makes him very happy.

Because Dad is sort of a big kid at heart, my beautiful Mum was the one who had to have the family type cars to transport us kids. We drove around in a Volvo station wagon for a while, with those little seats in the back that my sisters and I thought were great fun as we could wave at the cars behind us.

What is your dream car?

I like little cars that are easy to park. I've always liked BMW hatchbacks, but I'm also a big fan of Golfs. I did recently drive my Mum's current car which is a smallish BMW four-wheel drive (that about shows my knowledge of cars!) and that was quite fun so maybe I'm growing up?
