Sisters show cancer support

GAIN practical and emotional cancer support from those who know it best, with the Sunshine Sisters.

The southern Gold Coast group is not made up of doctors or nurses but those touched by cancer such as co-facilitators Kathy Scott and Carolyn Thomas.

Ms Scott has survived breast cancer since being diagnosed in June 2010.

"I've had chemo and radiation therapy. It was out of the blue as these things usually are, and I'm now a survivor," she said.

She said Ms Thomas was diagnosed three years ago with ovarian cancer, which recurred last year and "she's now back at work".

"We've found through our experience and our work there's not a lot of support around.

"There's a bit of a need to get together and talk without having to put on a happy face for family."

The group meets on the second Thursday of each month and its third on December 8 will feature guest speaker naturopath Sarah Franklin of local Balanced Health Clinic.

Ms Scott said each meeting went from 10am to noon featuring a cuppa, chat and guest speaker.

"People help each other by sharing their experiences."

Contact Ms Scott on kngscott@bigpond.com or 0400 487 018 or Ms Thomas on carolyn.t@hotmail.com or 0419 663 188.
