Maclean firefighters make dash for cash

SIX firefighters from Maclean made a dash for cash through town yesterday morning, pushing a wheelbarrow and firefighters boot inviting the community to toss in a coin donation for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.

Brigade Captain Darrell Shaw said while the final amount was yet to be tallied he estimated the small community had contributed close to $1000.

"Maclean is a great little town, people are always quick to put their hand in their pocket for charity," Captain Shaw said.

However fundraising efforts were marred by the theft of one of the donation tins from the Maclean Hotel overnight following a break in.

"It's disappointing but there's not much we can do about it," he said, adding his message for the thief would not be suitable for print.
