SIX women are vying for the Wonders of Women Outstanding Achievements Awards most prestigious category - woman of the year - to be announced at Tweed Heads on Thursday.

A total of 25 Tweed women across nine categories have been nominated for the 7th annual awards staged by the Tweed Women's Service to coincide with International Women's Day.

Over 100 people are expected to attend the ceremony which will be held at Elevation Church grounds on Caloola Dr, starting at 4pm.

Last year's winner was Susie Dunn an obstetric nurse at Tweed Community Health.

Awards spokeswoman Carol Graham said: "It's just to recognise and acknowledge women who perform outstanding achievements.

"There are a lot of unsung heroes in our community," Ms Graham said.

"This year's theme is Mother Earth."
