Skilled car park 'progressing'
A PARK-and-ride service to Skilled Park was not available for the ANZAC test last Friday.
Gold Coast City Council was planning to have a park-and-ride service from a 600-plus car park at Boowaggan Road, Merrimac ready by this month but work is not complete.
Council offered Stadiums Queensland the option of using the car park to service both Skilled Park and Metricon Stadium.
Alterations were required to deliver the service, including road widening to improve access to the car park and to allow buses to set down and pick up patrons.
A council spokesman said workers were still “progressing on the new Park and Ride site at Boowaggan Road, Merrimac which will cater for events at Metricon Stadium”.
“While it is not currently in the Public Transport and Traffic Management Plan for Skilled Park Stadium, the site is strategically located between the two stadiums and could soon service both in the near future,” the council spokesman said.
Council has approached Stadiums Queensland about using the Merrimac car park for Skilled Park.
In the report to council on March 15, it was stated “the site (car park) will be available to Stadiums Queensland to utilise as a park-and-ride to service both its stadia”.
A Stadiums Queensland spokesman said parking and traffic management off the stadium site was the responsibility of local council.
Gold Coast Titans’s home, Skilled Park, has only 893 car parks across the whole precinct, including 124 limousine parks at Robina train station.
