KELLY Slater ended the dream for Joel Parkinson in the final of the Quiksilver Pro at Kirra today.

It was a tight battle between two of the top surfers on the ASP Tour in pumping conditions but it was Slater who took the day over world champion Parkinson, 18.56 to 17.47.

Both scored early on the 40 minute final but as the tide lowered the opportunities for big scoring waves dried up.

Slater defeated Mick Fanning in the semi finals to earn his spot in the final, 19.37 to 18.60.

Parkinson defeated Michel Bourez in his semi final, 18.17 to 15.80

It was a fitting end to a competition with the final to be fought out at the world famous break.
