QUIKSILVER Pro fan favourite Kelly Slater has taken the win against Hawaii's Dusty Payne, with some exceptional board riding on display.

Snapper Rocks was back to hosting the action again, with 1.5m swells set to provide some sublime surfing for wide eyed spectators and wave height expected to increase throughout the day.

A Quiksilver Pro spokeswoman said that the day was off to a stunning start.

"The crowds building and looking quite good," she said.

"There's clean waves and we're just coming up on the second heat of round three."

She added that the increase in swell would be helping keep the event pumping this afternoon.
