Snapper Rocks sweeps the surf at Coast of Origin comp
THE Gold Coast has won the Coast of Origin club surfing series for the first time in three years after narrowly defeating the Sunshine Coast in the last few heats of the day at the weekend.
The contest was held at Burleigh Heads in good 2-3ft waves, the Gold Coast winning 248 to 228 in front of a big crowd lining the grass on the iconic point break.
Snapper Rocks made it a clean sweep winning the individual club honours, Quinn Bruce and Jay Phillips were stand out performers on the final day.
"Queensland is so unique and everyone is really passionate about club surfing so events like this are amazing and to take the win today is great for the club and all our juniors who are looking further into their future in the sport," Mr Phillips said.
Competition will be fierce at next year's event with the Sunshine Coast no doubt keen to regain their title.
