Couple of real soccer lovers

THERE is more to being a Tweed Valley King than lining up as a left-defender in the Gold Coast Soccer Premier League for Chris Brown.

The former Central Coast man moved to the Tweed with his fiancé, Alex McHale, at the start of the year, and the first thing the pair did was find a soccer club, because not only was Chris a player, but Alex is as well.

She plays for the Tweed Valley Kings women's division two side, of which Brown and fellow TVK defender (and team captain) Luke Craig are the coaches.

So life pretty much revolves around soccer for this couple, and that is the way they like it.

“It has been really good,” Brown said.

“Everyone at the club is having fun with their football at the moment, and that's what you want.

“Everyone's been really friendly towards us, and we've been made to feel really comfortable.”

Brown has come to the Kings as the side has put together its best year in the premier league competition.

The men's and the women's division two sides are both locked in tight battles to make the top four.

Brown wasn't there for the previous years when the side struggled to win a game and battled relegation for two years, but he has heard about it and he is glad to have been a part of the breakthrough year for the club.

“Everyone is having a lot of fun this year under (coach Craig) Madden, it's a really good place to be, and we enjoy each other's company, and I think it is probably a bit more professional around the club this year as well,” Brown said.

“We're in the top four, and making the finals is the goal, it is what we are aiming for.

“We are going to put ourselves in a pretty good position to make the finals, then it just comes down to how we perform on the day.”

The Kings have the best defensive record in the Premier League competition, thanks in no small part to Brown, Craig, and 17-year-old goalkeeper Josh Green.

Brown said he was a big fan of the youth keeper.

“It is really good to play in front of him, he has come up with some absolutely brilliant saves,” Brown said.
