Solar-powered boat manufacturer leading the way

A HERVEY Bay boat builder says his team is leading the trend in solar-powered boat manufacturing.

Streamline Catamarans project manager Wayne Jones said the company's innovations had put it ahead of the fleet as the world-first production line for the sun-powered vessels.

Mr Jones said the first handcrafted Solar Pacific Cruiser would travel to Cairns this week for the solar panels to be fitted, power, batteries and computer controls to be synced.

"With orders already placed, we're getting ready to export and for the local market too," he said.

"With their dead silent motors we hope the boats will also be suitable for the Australian Defence Force or for eco-cruisers wishing to minimise their impact."
