Sparks fly as the summer Big Bash League heats up

RAINING sixes, cartwheeling stumps, flashing bails, heated words and hurled abuse - this summer's BBL has had it all.

The highlight for me though is the blooper reel.

We have seen plenty of comedic run-outs, less than desirable fielding attempts, and the odd streaker.

I'm not sure how much footage Fox Sports showed of our nude sprinter at Adelaide Oval, and at the risk of endorsing illegal frivolities, this man on a mission provided the sell-out crowd with plenty of laughter.

It was a gutsy sprint, tearing across to jump the fence, only to dodge security around the construction site like two kids chasing each other around mum's dinner table.

Another favourite of mine was the Stars v Strikers game last week in Adelaide.

David Hussey and Bobby Quiney both needed a set of new trousers when the fireworks went off within a few metres of them after a boundary.

The surprise blast resulted in Bobby ducking on the ground clutching his ears whilst Hussey flapped his arms like a bird on its last legs and ran off.

There have been plenty of cock-ups in the fielding department too.

I've lost count the amount of times a boundary fielder has torn off to chase a ball down ... in the wrong direction.

It can be extremely hard to see in some instances, particularly when combining the backdrop of a large crowd, mixed with sponsors banners on the fences and smoky air following the fireworks.

It's not just the visuals that make fielding hard, but the roar of the crowd can also play a part, making it 'eyes on the skipper' at all times paramount.

There's been enough material to fuel a few egos and risk a few 'dust ups' too.

Hastings and Pollard went toe-to-toe in the middle of the Adelaide wicket where a few choice words were exchanged, while Brad Haddin made a well-directed jibe at Chris Gayle following his dismissal, suggesting it was time he justified his pay packet.

I suspect these examples won't be the last of the fireworks as teams head towards finals time.
