Speed limits in school zones will be back in effect today

TWEED police are warning motorists that school zones will be back in effect from today.

Despite most students not returning to class until Wednesday, some students will be attending schools and the zones will therefore be operational and policed to ensure the 40km/h speed limit is adhered to, police warned via social media.

School zones mostly operate from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm Monday to Friday, but always check relevant signage.

Exceeding the speed limit by 10 km/h and under will mean two lost demerit points and a $173 fine for a full license holder, with penalties ranging as high as seven demerit points and a $2296 fine for exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/h.
