Splendour punters snapping up accommodation

TWEED Coast accommodation houses will enjoy an influx of visitors in the lead-up to the Splendour in the Grass music festival which kicks off on Friday week.

Accommodation is filling up fast as revellers gear up for another big year for Australia’s premier music festival, which will this year be headlined by legendary UK band The Cure and US rockers The Strokes.

Big 4 North Star holiday park front office supervisor Susan Flaherty said there had been a huge rush for accommodation bookings over the Splendour weekend.

“The pick up has been amazing. We’re completely booked out and have been since tickets went on sale,” Ms Flaherty said.

“If more accommodation was available I’m sure we would have sold more again and (response) has been fantastic for a second year in a row.”

On top of ensuite accommodation booking out, 60% of powered sites for camping had already been snapped up.

Ms Flaherty said additional staff would be added to the front office, house keeping and in the on-site cafe, Ripples, to meet high demand during Splendour.

“This is definitely our biggest single event of the year,” she said.

As many as 30,000 music lovers are expected to flock to the festival, which runs from July 22-24 at North Byron Parklands, Yelgun.
