Standing room only for Pedro’s send off
THERE was standing room only when the friends and family of Peter 'Pedro' McHenry came to South Grafton to see him off.
The crowd who came to the Clarence Valley Funerals chapel for Pedro's funeral spilled out onto the street when they could pack no more people
inside.
Pedro, who died on Sunday at the age of 71, made his mark in the Clarence Valley as a radio broadcaster and his involvement in sport, particularly surf lifesaving.
Delivering the eulogy, his brother, John, recalled Pedro's passion for radio broadcasting, which brought him to Grafton in the late 1960s.
This was a theme the former manager of 2GF, Ron Bell, developed when he spoke of Pedro's career on air.
Helen McAuliffe, from Red Rock Bowling Club, recalled Pedro's other three passions: surf lifesaving, bowls and food.
Pedro was involved with the creation of the Red Rock Corindi Surf Life Saving Club, but his fame spread beyond the lifesaving.
He was a life member at local and branch level in lifesaving and also at Red Rock Bowling Club.
