Star channels Patsy in tribute
AWARD-winning country music star Courtney Conway will channel a legend in the hit musical Always... Patsy Cline, at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Saturday.
More than just a tribute to the legendary country singer, Always Patsy Cline is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with fan, Louise Seger, who continued to correspond with Cline until the singer’s tragic death in 1963, after the pair met in Texas in 1961.
The musical is laced with humour and recreates 27 Cline hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams and Walking After Midnight.
“I’m so excited to be playing one of my idols,” Conway said.
“Patsy had so many beautiful, classic songs and they are really showcased in this wonderful show.”
Conway burst onto the scene with her debut EP A Few Little Things, after graduating from the College of Country Music in Tamworth.
She won Best New Talent at the 2011 National Country Music Awards, and her debut album 21 Days in Nashville, reached the top 10 in the 2014 ARIA Australian Artists Country Album Chart. To transform into Cline, Conway has spent significant time researching Cline’s personality and travelled to Nashville where Cline’s star shone brightest.
“Patsy was quite the character and I’ve gone through some of her letters and she has made me laugh quite a bit,” Conway said.
“Everybody loves her songs, they are classic and never age, so I can’t wait to get out there and perform them to everyone.”
