Star sprinter takes honour
YOUNG Tweed runner Tynan Neveceral has had a big year on and off the track and, on Thursday, received his latest accolade when he was presented with a medal for his efforts in representing his state.
The 11-year-old sprint sensation from Pacific Coast Christian College received the award for his recent trip to the All Schools Nationals, where he set the fastest 100-metre time for his age group with a blistering 12.02 seconds.
Neveceral finished with a bronze overall, but the scorching time set in his semi-final smashed his personal best time and remained the fastest time recorded for the Nationals, with the final being won in 12.30, well below Neveceral’s best time.
Tynan’s father Mark said the time and overall result were down to hard work and dedication leading up to the nationals.
“In the last six weeks he worked with a sprint coach with an aim of getting his time down by .25 of a second from his previous personal best, 12.52 seconds,” Neveceral said.
“He achieved double that with a half-second improvement, scoring a time of 12.02 seconds.”
Neveceral was presented with the medal by Tweed MP Geoff Provest and said he was honoured to receive the accolade.
