Stars to rock out for kids

TYALGUM student Delaney Cooper will meet rock’n’roll royalty when sixties superstar Russell Morris performs at a fundraiser concert on January 25.

Delaney’s mother and concert spokesperson, Raeanne Ederle said the rockin4thekidz concert would raise funds for children with special needs.

“The money raised will go towards more aid time and carer education,” she said.

Ms Ederle said Delaney, seven, was diagnosed with autism at 18-months-old and with intensive therapy is now very high-functioning and attends mainstream schooling at Tyalgum Public School.

Rockin4thekidz organisers hope to sell 300 tickets and raise $20,000 with ticket, food and alcohol sales.

Gathering willing performers was no problem as rock and blues guitarist Tim Gaze was an old friend and rallied support of other bands.

“I emailed the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers, James Blundell and they have sent me signed merchandise to be raffled on the day.”

Ms Ederle said t-shirts, CDs and gifts from local businesses were among the raffle prizes.

Tyalgum Public School principal Peter Meadows explained that children with special needs in mainstream schools attracted government funding according to their level of need.

“The P&C fundraise to provide additional support to supplement government funding,” Mr Meadows said.

“It has been a lot of work fundraising this year and last year for the concert with running raffles and the like.

“We hope to tap outside the Tyalgum village so people from further away can also enjoy a fabulous night with these great performers.

“Many performers expressed they would be happy to come on board next year if we do it again,” she said.

Performers confirmed for the concert include Russell Morris, Tim Gaze, Vince Lovegrove and The Mongrels of Passion, Gyan and Simon and Andrew Kidman and The Brown Birds from Windy Hill.

The licensed concert will be held at the Tyalgum Showground and gates open at 5pm.

Tickets can only be pre-purchased and are available at the Tyalgum General Store or online www.rockin4thekidz.com.au.
