Still room for gifts under tree
K MART at Tweed Heads South still has a lot of tags on its Christmas Wishing Tree.
But there's still time to get something under the tree and put a smile on the faces of children in need.
The K Mart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia's largest Christmas gift appeal.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Australians, the appeal has collected more than 5 million gifts for people in need over the past 23 years.
My Daily News caught up with Montana and Cody Post with their friend Jackaiah Tai as they popped presents under the tree today.
"I know how happy it makes me to get presents," Montana said.
"I want to make another kid smile like I do on Christmas morning."
Last year, the appeal raised more than 464,000 gifts.
In 2011, the appeal aims to collect more than 470,000 gifts nationally, for distribution via K Mart's charity partner, the Salvation Army.
The concept for the K Mart Wishing Tree Appeal first came about when an Adelaide team member suggested K Mart use its network of stores as gift collection points, assisting charity groups at Christmas.
The 2011 K Mart Wishing Tree Appeal will run until Christmas Eve. Now an Australian Christmas tradition, the K Mart Wishing Tree Appeal is heavily relied upon by the Salvation Army to provide support to families in need at Christmas.
Come along and buy a gift for the K Mart Wishing Tree and make a difference to someone this Christmas.
