Axe bandit fought off with stool

A BOTTLE shop attendant with a stool proved too much for tomahawk-wielding bandits on Wednesday night.

About 8.30pm (DST) two men, one armed with a small hand-held axe, attempted to rob the Kirra Cellars on Musgrave Street, a police spokesperson said.

A male employee refused to hand over any cash and picked up a stool to defend himself.

The men then fled empty handed and were last seen running down Lord Street.

One of the men is described as Caucasian, about 175 centimetres tall with a thin build and was wearing a white T-shirt, white bandanna and sunglasses.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said no one was injured in the Wednesday night incident and investigations were underway by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

Southern Gold Coast CIB yesterday afternoon said it had no new leads .

McGuires, which manages the Kirra Bottle Shop, declined to comment.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
