Higgins Storm Chasing administrator Jeff Higgins posted the warning on the groups Facebook page this morning.

Storms are likely to contain large to very large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and dangerous, frequent lightning.

"A Southerly wind change will produce a triple point wind convergence and greatly increase thunderstorm activity in its vicinity along the coast," Mr Higgins posted.

"Prepare now, be aware, stay safe."

Mr Higgins said Higgins Strom Chasing will be posting frequent updates on weather conditions today.
