Schools join in Festival of Arts

HUNDREDS of primary school children had their day at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts yesterday as the event opened its doors to school groups.

A range of primary schools contested the choir, instrumental, orchestral and recorder ensemble sections of the festival.

School group participation is set to continue today with primary students armed with recorders followed by teenage pianists.

Yesterday festival president and secretary Arthur Holmes said organisers had been flat out but he was delighted music convenor Pauline Hibbard had encourage more schools to enter.

“That’s good because it’s nice for the kids to have some competition,” he said.

Mr Holmes said tonight’s program offered top class music with piano championships.

“That’s an extremely high standard. Anyone who is interested in piano ought to (visit),” he said.
