Students warned after photo

TWEED River High School has issued a warning to its parents and students after a member of the public witnessed a man taking inappropriate photos of a student.

Deputy Principal Trevor Hodges placed the warning in the school newsletter asking all parents to speak about the incident with their children.

He said a member of the public called the school after witnessing a man in his 40s taking inappropriate photos of a female student in the Tweed City Shopping Centre car park.

The man estimated the girl was in Year 10 or 11 and followed the man, taking note of his car number plate and reporting it to police.

Mr Hodges said police could not take further action until the student came forward.

"Can I ask all parents and carers to encourage the children in their care, male and female, to report anything they find suspicious or disturbing to a responsible adult?" Mr Hodges wrote.

"The student may be worried that they will get into trouble or that it may not be important enough to do anything about.

"I need to assure parents and students that there is nothing more important than the safety of our young people."

If you know anything about the incident contact the school or the Tweed police on 07 5536 0999.
