On-court success at rep carnival

THE only downside to the representative carnival held at Pine Rivers on Sunday was that the bus driver got lost – not only on the way up, but also on the way home.

All teams represented Tweed from under 12s to opens.

On the way home the bus was brimming with trophies and all teams had a successful day on the courts.

Opens competed in Division 1 and finished third on the ladder.

The Opens were extremely competitive on the court going down by one goal to Premier League team, Shailer Park, in their second round game on the day.

The team will have a couple more carnivals to improve their game plan and will certainly be a contender for the title at the upcoming Country Carnival in July.

Coach, Mike Kiker, was happy with the performance of the girls especially as this was only their second representative carnival this season and he confirmed that a bit more work and training on court as well as within the shooting circle would only benefit the team.

The team has developed well considering the lack of carnivals, injuries and the difficulty in getting everyone together for a complete training session.

The team consists of new members to our association as well as players who have competed for Tweed over the years.

The under 12s were undefeated for the day and came home with the Division 1 trophy while the under 13s and under 15s also finished first in their divisions.

Lisa Richards, coach of the under 13s, said she was happy with her shooters and believed the extra work being put in by the girls at training showed in their performances.

The under 15s went through undefeated and performed strongly on the day over their opponents. Coach, Viki Pengilley, is thrilled by the performances of her team and their improvement at each carnival.

Our Under 14s finished the day on third place in Division 2. Coach, Jenna Windley, believes her girls have what it takes to improve on their performance and be even better when they compete at the State level.

The State Championships will be played over the long weekend in June and our under 12s to under 15s will compete.

Reminder that nominations are still open for our Club Carnival to be held on June 26.

Nominations close on June 11 – get in early as places are filling fast.
