Summer season will be rainy

AFTER a dramatic electrical storm last night, this summer south east Queenslanders can expect warmer nights and cooler days according to meteorological forecasters.

Energex reported 100 lightning strikes per minute in last night's storm.

Bureau of Meteorology climate services manager Jeff Sabburg said there would be more rain than usual over the next few months.

"The rainfall for November to January has a 70 to 80% probability of exceeding median rainfall," Mr Sabburg said.

"But we are not expecting as extreme rainfall as last season, we are saying to be careful."

He said because of La Nina, there will be 20% less chance of thunderstorms even in December when lightning activity peaks.

The Bureau's forecasts indicate a 20-25% chance that daytime temperatures from November to January will exceed the average of 27 to 30C.

"There is a 67 to 80% chance of exceeding night time temperatures of 18 to 21."
